How are T-ball thru Rookie teams formed?

T-Ball through Rookie teams are formed by trying to keep school classes, schools and friends together. It is not always possible to do this.

How are Pioneer, Coast and Majors Baseball teams formed?

Pioneer, Coast, and Majors teams are formed with an emphasis on team equality. At these levels the skill evaluation is introduced. Skill Evaluations are a opportunity for a group of Sammamish Little League representatives to confidentially evaluate the basic baseball skills of each player. This is not a tryout, as everyone is placed on a team. The idea is to try to distribute players to make the teams as equal as possible. At these levels we are not able to honor requests for players to play with their friends.

    What are skill evaluations?

Skill Evaluations apply to those baseball players playing at the Pioneer, Coast and Major levels. Skill Evaluations usually take place on 1 or 2 weekends immediately after the close of registration. Each player at these levels must attend one 2 hour session during one of these days. Skill Evals are generally conducted indoors at one of the local schools. The evaluation consists of a series of stations covering running, hitting (wiffle ball), catching flies and grounders, and a few pitches for those interested in pitching. The purpose of this is for the evaluators to get a general feel for the skill level of each individual. This information is kept confidential and is used in team formation to make the teams a equal as possible. Players should wear tennis shoes and bring their baseball glove. We have tried to streamline the process but depending on the number of players at given session the player should be prepared to stand in line. Please refer to the calendar for specific dates, times, and locations.

    What is the time commitment?

The T-Ball season generally runs from April 1 to the middle of June. Practices and games are on Saturdays. Instructional, Rookie and Pioneer start around the last week of March. Coast and Majors start the middle of March. All levels end with an End of Season tournament which completes around the middle of June before school lets out. Instructional thru Majors usually have two events per week. One on a weeknight and one on Saturday. These start as pactices and then switch to a combination of practices and games or all games depending on the level. Practices at the younger ages are usually an hour and 1.5 to 2 hours at the older ages.

Once that is done we know what we need, then we need to negotiate with Sammamish, King County and the Issaquah School District for field time.
